What is salvation? And why do I need it?

Salvation begins with God This call to salvation begins with God.  He initiates it by drawing us to Him by using our life experiences as opportunities to tug at our heart. “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him” (John 6:44) “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in”(Revelation 3:20) Salvation cannot be earned God desires an intimate relationship with us, but we cannot obtain it through our own efforts. “But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags”   (Isaiah 64:6) ”There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks  after God.They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no  not one”.  (Romans 3: 10-12) We are separated from God by sin We have a problem.  Our sin separates us from God, leaving us spiritually empty. ”for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.  (Romans 3:23) (Romans 14: 16-18) The world, which has been deceived by Satan, would have you believe that just because you do not commit murder or steal from others, you can call yourself a Christian.  But this is a dangerous line of thinking.  ”For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.  For He who said, &quot;Do not commit adultery,&quot; also said, &quot;Do not murder”     (James 2: 10-11) A gift from God Salvation then, is a gift from God.  He offers this gift through his Son, Jesus Christ. By laying down His life on the cross, Christ took our place and paid the ultimate price,the penalty for our sin, which is death.  Jesus is our only way to God.  ”I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me (Jesus)”     (John 14:6)  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”     (Romans 5:8) Responding to God’s  “tug” Receiving God’s gift of salvation is not complicated.  In fact, it’s as simple as  ABC. Admit that you are a sinner and turn away from your sin.  It is not enough to just be sorry for your sin; you must sincerely decide that you will not sin anymore.  “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing<br>  may come from the presence of the Lord”      (Acts 3:19) Believe Jesus Christ died on the cross to save you from your sin and the consequences of that sin.  Rejoice in the knowledge that when you accept His gift of salvation, you also accept His gift of eternal life. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him  should not perish but have everlasting life”.   (John 3:16) Confess Jesus to others.  Tell people about your decision to follow Christ.  Share God’s message of hope with those people around you who do not know Jesus, but who still need Him just as badly as you did.   “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved”  (Romans 10:9) The easiest way to follow the ABC’s outlined above is to simply pray.   Prayer is how we communicate with God.  There is no special formula and you are encouraged to use your own words.  Just pray from your heart to God, and He will save you.  If you just can&acute;t seem to find the words, here is a prayer of salvation you can pray: Dear Lord, I admit that I am a sinner. I have done many things that don't please You. I have lived my life for myself. I am sorry and I repent. I ask You to forgive me.   I believe that You died on the cross for me, to save me. You did what I could not do for myself.  I come to You now and ask You to take control of my life, I give it to You. Help me to live every day in a way that pleases You. I love You, Lord, and I thank You that I will spend all eternity with You.  Amen Now, don’t doubt! Salvation is by God’s grace and through your faith.  There is nothing you did, or ever can do, to deserve it. It is a free gift from God and all you have to do is receive it! “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,  not of works, lest anyone should boast”.  (Ephesians 2:8-9) Satan will try to make you doubt your salvation, but don't let him! He is the Father of Lies and he hates you.  His main objective is to keep you from Jesus.  But remember, “that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God  which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”  (Romans 8: 38-39).
